Pope John Paul II canonized Saint Katharine Drexel in Rome in 2000. A large increase in the number of visitors to the Motherhouse created a need for facilities to accommodate these pilgrims.
Blitch Knevel Architects designed additions and renovations, including a new entrance with elevator and stair tower, a covered drop-off for buses and cars, covered walkways that lead from the entrance to the Shrine, a Cafe´ with seating for 75 (including an outside terrace), a Mission Gift Shop, and an Auditorium with seating for 100.
