The Audubon School Renovation/Addition project is one of many being completed for the Recovery School District & Orleans Parish School Board under their new education initiatives.
This project is the renovation of a 1922 masonry and wood 3-story school building in the Carrollton area of Uptown New Orleans and serves approximately 400 students from Pre-K to 3rd grade. In addition to the comprehensive renovation and code upgrades, the existing building will receive a 9,000 sq. ft. addition on the existing 1.65 acre site. A key component of the project’s program is a response to the existing neighborhood and the reworking of the site areas and green spaces with existing vegetation on site.
A LEED Silver rating is a requirement of the OPSB as well as the building’s adaptability to future changes in the school’s teaching mission. Melding the historical context of the original building with the modern technologies required will be an exercise in creativity and sensitivity.
