After Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast region, Blitch Knevel Architects/Leo A. Daly was selected to Master Plan and design $310 million of replacement and improvement projects at the VA Medical Center in Biloxi.
The program includes a prototypical “Residential Household and Extended Care” facility, a Blind Rehab Clinic and training program, a Clinical Facility Addition and Parking Structure. The Clinical Addition is a four-story, 150,000 sf addition to the existing hospital building. The new addition will include Ambulatory Outpatient Surgery Area, Primary Care, Specialty Care, Women’s Health, Oncology, Urology, Pulmonary, Dermatology, Eye, Audiology/Speech Pathology and Patient Education Classrooms.
Due to the building’s proximity to the Gulf, the addition has been designed with strengthened structural and architectural elements for blast and hurricane protection.
