The new Louisiana State University (LSU) Academic Medical Center is designed to replace the 68-year-old Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans (MCLNO), which was heavily damaged and closed following Hurricane Katrina. The projected $1.2 billion facility is part of a medical district which includes a new United States Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, currently under design.
The project will bring a new World Class Academic Medical Center to downtown New Orleans. The design incorporates the best practices of Evidence Based Design, Sustainability, Operational Efficiency, and Flexibility & Growth for the Future. The environments will transform the Patient Experience and attract the best and the brightest staff. The new Level 1 Trauma Center is designed to mitigate the effects of Natural Disasters including wind, floods and earthquakes. The development will also serve as an economic anchor in the post-Katrina recovery of New Orleans.
Project Scope: new academic medical center, including 424 patient beds, five trauma rooms, 76 emergency department stations, 26 Behavioral Health stations , 23 operating rooms, eight interventional suites, 186 clinical exam rooms, 31 treatment rooms, eight CT and four MR scan rooms, 68 conference/class rooms.
