Canstruction 2012

Blitch Knevel Architects’ 2012 Canstruction “Parish in Style” Entry was awarded the People’s Choice Award, Best Use of Labels and Honorable Mention. Canstruction 2012 was held in conjunction with the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience May 25th and 26th, in the Morial Convention Center. BKA was one of eight local architecture firms competing for best design. BKA’s entry was built from a total of 5,500 cans, all of which were donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank after the event, contributing 26,159 meals to the New Orleans community.

communityBlitch Knevel Architects and Zehno sponsored a competition with the artist students from YA/YA (Young Artists/Young Aspirations) to design an eye-catching design for their Mardi Gras stands on St. Charles Avenue.  Many innovative entries were submitted and the boldly-colored design featuring a string of blue beads, designed by Quentin Gilmore, 18, was selected.  Student artists from YA/YA then painted the stands themselves.  The results were outstanding!
