A multi-year phased design and construction collaboration between Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, the design team of Blitch Knevel Architects, and the construction management team of Roy Anderson Construction has been recognized for excellence by the receipt of a VISTA award as the best renovation healthcare project in the US, presented at the American Hospital Association’s annual conference in Orlando. The project has also received multiple awards from construction associations and other design groups.
This collaborative approach resulted in the construction of two new Patient Floors, a unique renovation of 3 floors of existing rooms converting 3 patient rooms into 2 larger and more patient care centered rooms, and a new skin for the entire building to mitigate damages caused by Katrina.
Full scale actual mockups were built prior to construction to maximize staff buy-in and understanding, and to test equipment and finishes options.
The project was completed months ahead of schedule and millions of dollars below budget.
