Located in the revitalized Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans, the original school and site were devastated by the flood waters from the levee breaches in 2005. The school and related church facility have returned with assistance from the residents in the neighborhood recognizing the importance of such an institution for their future.
The St. Paul’s Episcopal School Classroom Addition is a 2-story classroom building located on the corner of Vicksburg and Canal Streets and connected to the existing classroom/ gymnasium, replacing several buildings demolished due to storm damage. The building will contain 6 classrooms including two 1,000 sq. ft. classrooms for Pre-K and Kindergarten as well as a large common space in the first floor allowing for interaction between students in a gathering space. The second floor will contain 4 classrooms at 600 sq ft each for older students as well as an additional shared teaching area.
The School’s mission includes environmental sensitivity and is seeking spaces filled with daylight and sustainable materials. A prospective roof garden is planned as well as well as several porch areas are included to provide for outdoor teaching when the weather is appropriate.
